Within the framework of the National Commission for Accreditation Public Account (CNA), the president of UA, Dr. Teodoro Ribera Neumann presented the book entitled “Desafíos y Perspectivas de la Dirección Estratégica de las Instituciones Universitarias».
On the occasion, the president regarded to the Chilean Higher Education overall scenario, especially considering the public universities’ crisis. “Over the past 20 years there has been a gradual change of the university role, which is partly led by the State, without having an explicit policy in this respect. Public universities role is being displaced, they are receiving less funding and a are being subjected to stronger controls of the National Audit Office”.
In the director´s opinion, It is necessary to “clearly redefine the public universities role, witch is obviously a social and political definition, but the decision to be made by the State regarding to its universities is going to weigh decisively in the whole system”.
